The Drone Dish: Christer Isulat

On this episode of The Drone Dish, Ryan is joined by drone pilot Christer Isulat, AirVūz profile filipino_flight_tales. Chris, who is currently home in Manila, spends most of his time shooting beaches down south or in the western Philippines. Ryan admires what he calls Chris's "incredibly eye for drone videography," but Chris says he is still only a hobbyist. However, he's trying to make it a career! He says his passion started almost a year ago in Runyon Canyon when there was a drone flying above him taking pictures. He thought it would be great to bring one with him as he traveled around the world, which is exactly what he does now! Chris says the Philippines is a perfect place to capture aerial images because it is an archipelagos, meaning he never runs out of beaches to capture on his UAV. If he had to pick a favorite part of his country, it would be Palawan which is a group of islands with the most stunning sunny beaches and limestone cliffs. Ryan loves "Taal Lake" which Chris says may be the home of one of the smallest volcanos in the world. He and his girlfriend were on a drive and thought it'd be great to see what things looked like from the air. Chris says he had only seen the lake from ground level and was shocked by it's beauty when he saw it from up above. Drone rules and regulations in the Philippines have changed in the last year, Chris says they are being modeled after regulations in the United States (no flying over a crowd, restricted areas, or within 30 meters of pedestrians not involved in the flight). Chris would love to get back to the United States to fly his drone around the Grand Canyon or to Peru to see Machu Picchu from above. He's tried to capture the temples in Cambodia, but found out too late that he needed a specific permit to shoot them. His video "Up North" was recently featured on YourVūz, an AirVūz Original, but didn't win the $500 grand prize. He says he shot that video while on a work trip; looks like a fun trip to us!
